Key Verse: Isaiah 6:1“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”I know that many of you are disheartened over the results of the elections that took place last night. I, too, am disheartened over the results, and it is not because I believe that all the Republican candidates are outstanding Christians. It is because the Democratic Party as a whole supports things that I, as a Christian, cannot support—such as homosexuality, the transgender movement, abortion, the growth and acceptance of Islam, and a very socialistic agenda. I am disheartened that so many people are willing to support a sinful and overtly wicked agenda. However, while I am disheartened and disappointed, I am not surprised. America is no longer a country that seeks God, and it hasn’t been for some time. As a result, God will give us wicked leaders, since God is the one who truly appoints leaders (Romans 13). God also will give a country over to a wicked and reprobate mind as a result of its continued pursuit and desire for evil (Romans 1).So yes, I too am disheartened and disappointed, but I am not despairing! The reason why I am not in despair, the reason why I am not giving up hope, is a result of the vision that God gave Isaiah.Isaiah, along with the nation of Israel, was facing a time of political anxiety. A good and, for the most part, godly king, Uzziah, had died. The country was nervous because they were unsure of who their new king would be. They didn’t know what policies he would implement or what god he would serve. It was in this season of anxiety that God revealed an awesome truth to Isaiah. In a vision, Isaiah saw God sitting on a throne. The God he saw on the throne wasn’t a small God on a big throne, either. The God Isaiah sees fills the entire throne, and the train of His robe fills the temple. The reason God showed this to Isaiah was to remind him that God was truly on the throne. Friends, it doesn’t matter who sits in the White House, who the governor is, or who the senator is—they do not have ultimate power and authority. God is the one who sits on a throne higher than every other throne. He is the one who is truly ruling, and even though it is hard for us to see and understand, God is working right now. His plan is not limited to using people who supposedly have Christian values. All throughout the Old Testament, we see God using wicked kings, wicked people, and even foreign nations to accomplish His plan.
