Key Verse: Acts 1:8

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Here in this verse Jesus gives His followers a big responsibility. Just before His ascension He tells those He was with that they are to be His witnesses all throughout the earth. And friends, as His followers today, this command applies to us! And it seems like such a daunting task! The world is big and there are so many distant lands, and indigenous peoples who have yet to have the gospel proclaimed in their land. Despite this, Jesus commands us to be a witness to His death, burial, and resurrection all the way to the ends of the earth. This means that despite the vastness of the earth, and despite the numerous people that live on the earth His command still stands. How in the world are we to accomplish such a task? How are we even going to be able to attempt such a task?

We definitely cannot do this on our own strength and Jesus knew this and told us this! That is why Jesus told them that their ability to be His witnesses would not come to pass until they received power from the Holy Spirit. We need to understand this truth about sharing the gospel. It isn’t up to us and our own power or persuasive abilities to share the gospel well. We don’t have the power to save or the power to faithfully obey God to share the gospel everywhere we g, but the Holy Spirit does and He dwells within us. So this week, as you go out stop relying on your own strength to share the gospel, and trust that the Holy Spirit will work through you and empower you to be a faithful witness all the way to the ends of the earth!
