Key Verse: 1 John 2:17 “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he does the will of God abides forever.” Earlier this week I wrote a devotional on the brevity of life. Today, I want to talk about something similar, but a little bit different. I want to make sure that we understand not only the brevity of life, but the brevity of this world. Everything around us temporary, and one day in the future it will cease to exist. This world and all that is in it, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, it’s all fading away. This means that the temptation we fight as Christians as we trod this earth will one day be no more. It’s all fading away and will disappear thanks to the victory Jesus accomplished at the cross. One day we will no longer face temptation. That will be a glorious day! I long for the day when I experience the full victory that Christ one for me! I long to no longer battle the devil. I long for rest from the daily war we all find ourselves in. The reality of that rest should motivate us to obey the commands of Jesus and do the will of God. This world is temporary, but through Jesus Christ, we have life eternal. He commands that we obey Him by resisting the tug that this world does to our heart. He has given us the ability to fight temptation and be victorious through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit! The fact that one day we will have rest, the fact that this world and all the evil in it is fading away should motivate us to more sincerely live for Jesus! Live for Him today, because the temptation you are facing will one day be no more! Stand firm in the faith!
