Key Verses: Psalm 60:11-12 “Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.” In life there will be times when we all need help. Sometimes we need help from family or friends, but there will be times when only the help that comes from God will suffice for the situation that we find ourselves in. David in this Psalm has found in himself in one of those situations. He feels as if God has abandoned him. As a result of this he cries out to God to come and give him the help he so desperately needs. David understands that the help of man is useless. At times we too need to have this understanding. The greatest help does not come from friends and families. It comes from almighty God and His limitless power. Next David reminds us that only through God’s help can we be valiant in the midst of the trials of this life. David and his men needed courage to fight the physical wars that they were engaged in. In war if a man lacks courage he will certainly be defeated. We need this same type of courage to fight the Spiritual battles we find ourselves in. It takes great courage to stand up against the devil and His schemes. And we will not find this courage through other people. This courage only comes from God Himself. When David saw Himself losing courage and did not sense God’s presence, He cried out to God for help and assistance. That is what this entire psalm is about. It is David’s cry for God’s presence so he can continue to fight. If you feel distant from God today, I implore you to take a few minutes and sincerely cry out to God. While doing so confess your sins and repent and beg God to come and give you the courage to fight the good fight!
