Key Verse: Psalm 119:11

“Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

When was the last time you sat down and intentionally memorized a verse or section of God’s Word? For some reason in American culture we tend to think that Scripture memorization is for kids. I want to assure you that it is not! I recently starting a reading a really good book authored by Robert J. Morgan entitled: 100 Bible Verss everyone should know by heart. The first several chapters in the book are written to help the reader see the reasons they should memorize Scripture. He shares many stories from his own life and the lives of others pertaining to how Scripture memorization really changed their life and helped them through extremely difficult times. If you are not memorizing God’s Word then you are missing out on so much peace, strength, and joy God has for you. Because as we memorize His Word the Holy Spirit applies it to our heart, mind, and spirit in a supernatural way. The author of Psalm 119 seemed to understand the power of God’s Word since he dedicated an entire 176 verse Psalm solely to God’s Word. This a very unique psalm as each section begins with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and it is in order! Here in V.11 the author tells us that one of the primary reasons to memorize God’s Word is so that we might sin against Him. As we memorize God’s Word we find supernatural strength to resist temptation and stand firm against the devil. My challenge to you today is to start memorizing God’s Word. It will make you a better spouse, parent, and just a better Christian all the way around. If you would like a copy of the book I have started reading please let me know and I will get one for you!!
