Key Verse: Romans 10:14 

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” 

Christians often wonder why more people don’t believe in Jesus. Some people refuse to believe because they don’t want to give up their sin. Others refuse to believe because they don’t think that there is a God. Here in Romans 10, Paul reminds us of one of the biggest reasons people don’t believe is simply because they haven’t heard. This is hard for us who live in America, especially the south to grasp. Here in Mississippi it seems that everyone claims to be a Christian even when it’s obvious that they aren’t. Rarely do you share the gospel here with someone who hasn’t  heard it before. However this is not the case in most places. Did you know that 41% of the world’s population have little to no access to the gospel and are unconsidered as “unreached.” In my wife’s home country of Vietnam the population is roughly 94% Buddhist, and only around 2% Christian. Why is this? It is mainly because the majority of them have never heard the gospel. People can’t believe in something they have never heard of! This is exactly what Paul is saying in Romans 10! What must we do? 

We must preach the word! By using the word preach, Paul is not referring to preaching sermons in church. Rather he is referring to heralding or announcing the gospel. This is the job of every Christian. If we are not regular sharing the gospel, we are failing at one of primary jobs as a Christian. We must be bold and share the gospel. We must do it at the workplace, at the grocery store, at the ball field, or wherever we find ourselves. We must always be looking for the opportunity to tell others about Jesus!
