Key Verse: Matthew 9:37-38 “Then He said to HIs disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Here in central Mississippi it is harvest season. Throughout the last several weeks the farmers have harvested much of their corn. Next they will harvest their soy beans and cotton. A good farmer can look out at his field and discern whether or not it will be a good harvest. In a similar fashion as Jesus looked out at the crowds following Him, he saw a great harvest. The harvest He saw was not one of corn or cotton, rather it was a harvest of people who were ready to give their lives to Christ. However, there was a problem in Jesus’ day and I believe that we have the same problem in our culture today. Jesus saw all these unsaved people who were ready to give their life to God, but He also saw how few the workers were. I believe that God sees how few workers there are today as well. Sure our churches across America may be full, but out missions teams aren’t. Our sanctuary may be full, but our evangelism teams aren’t. There is a world of people outside our church doors dying and going to hell. Many of which would place their faith in Christ, if someone would just tell them the good news. What can we do? First of all we can and we must pray. Jesus commands His disciples to the Lord of the harvest to send more workers into the fields. We must be a people that pray for the lost. We must pray that God raises up missionaries and pastors. We must also pray that God convicts the heart of HIs people to go and share the good news of His gospel. However, there is some irony in this story. Jesus command the disciples to pray that God would send more workers into the fields. Do you know who God sent? He sent the same people that prayed. I have often found that the more I pray for God to raise up missionaries and for God to convict His people and send them out God actually sends me out. This is how God works! This is the second things we do! We must be a people of prayer, but also a people of action! Church the harvest is great at your school, at your workplace, and possibly even in your own family! Go and share the gospel today! God is sending you!
