Key Verse: Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” The battle for holiness and purity in our lives begins in the mind. It begins with that which we constantly think about. As people we often become or do whatever dominates our thought life. Because of this truth Paul reminds us that we have to set our minds on the things above. By telling us to set our minds on something Paul is commanding us to not simply let our mind pointlessly think on this or that, but rather we are have control over and our thought life and intentionally think on that which is above. What are the things that are above? The things that are above are the the things of God. We need to be thinking about God’s Will, God’s mission, God’s holiness, and the character of Christ on a regular basis. If we would focus are mind on these things we would be far more Holy in our day to day lives. Because as we think on these things, our actions align with these pure thoughts. However when we choose to let our mind drift from thought to thought we will undoubtedly begin to think on the things of the earth. The very things we are commanded NOT to think on. Once our mind begins to drift to these things temptation will arise and then our mind becomes set on the sinful deeds of this earth. When that happens we always fall into sin. This morning, I hope you will surrender your thought life to God and commit to thinking with intentionality on those things which are above!
