Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:11 “Beloved, I Beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.” The key truth of this verse is one repeated throughout all Scripture. God wants us to stay away from sinful behavior. We read verses like this throughout the entire Old Testament and New Testament. Despite this, oftentimes we wonder why we should live right. Sometimes we wonder why we should choose to live Holy and not indulge in the temporary deceitful pleasures of the world. Peter gives us one of key reasons in this verse. One of the reasons we are to live holy and avoid the deceitful lusts of this life is because we are pilgrims. Peter says this at the start of this verse. We are to remember that we are pilgrims and sojourners? What is a pilgrim or sojourner? A pilgrim is someone who is traveling to a distant land and they know that all the land they pass through is not their home. Friends we need to remember that this world is not home. We are traveling through and while its our job to tell people where we are going and how to get there, we must never begin to live like the unsaved. We must never adopt their values and morals. We must remember that we are pilgrims! Our home is heaven, and because of that we are not live like the locals. We are foreigners, immigrants who are the blood soaked path that leads to glory! We don’t live like the world because this world is not our home! Live Holy today!
