Key Verse: Matthew 8:26 “But He said to them, ‘why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” In this passage the disciples find themselves on a boat in the midst of a storm. Being on a boat in the midst of a storm can be a scary experience. On a large body of water, the waves get large from the wind, and it seems as though the waves will overtake the boat. This must have been a ferocious storm because several of the disciples were experienced fisherman and experienced fisherman are used to manning their vessel in storms. Despite their past experience they were afraid, and they run to Jesus and ask Him to save them!! They were out of their depth. There was no way to navigate through this storm. SO Jesus gets up, scolds them for their lack of faith, and then calms the storm. Many of us will never have to captain a boat in a storm, but all of us will face storms in this life. Some storms will be bigger than others, and I believe that all of us will face at least one storm that seems like it will sink our ship. It may be a death in our family, a time of financial crisis, a failing marriage, or even an addiction that constantly plagues us. It is in these storms that we must remember that Jesus is with us. It is in the storms of life that we must hold fast to our faith, knowing that God is with us and that He has a plan and that He is working! Our faith must not fail. Our faith cannot fail because Jesus is in the boat with us. We must remember that Jesus can calm any storm, our job is to trust in His power and plan.
