God Keeps His Word - Genesis 21:1-2

By Pastor J.J. | October 27, 2025
Key Verses: Genesis 21:1-2

“And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.”

Have you ever wondered if God would keep His word? Or perhaps you have wondered if all the promises God has given us in His Word can be counted on? If we are completely honest each of us have probably at some point wondered if God will keep His promises to us. Maybe we have even wondered if God can actually accomplish what He says He will. This is exactly where Sarah is in Genesis 21. God has been promising Abraham a son for many years, yet up to this point his only child has been with the Egyptian slave Hagar. In Genesis 18 God reminds Abraham that he will have a son with Sarah. Upon hearing this Sarah laughs. She just doesn’t believe that God will give her a child in her old age. She is near 100 years old! But Genesis 21 shows us that God keeps His word.

The text says that God visited Sarah. Sarah was a barren woman all her life, a woman that never conceived to have children, so God visits her and cures her of this problem and works a miracle in her body which allows her to conceive a child with Abraham. The text also says that God visited Sarah at the time He said He would. God kept His word. Some of you are reading this today and you are dealing with addictions, depression, anxiety, and a host of other problems. You have read over and again in the pages of Scripture concerning how there is victory in Jesus, and how God doesn’t want us to live in sin and all of these things. Yet you find yourself still struggling, and you are beginning to wonder if God will keep His word. God made Abraham and Sarah wait. God was working while they were waiting. Perhaps more than anything He was working on their heart. He wanted to make sure that they were completely dependent upon Him. That may be one reason God is allowing you to go through the struggle today. God wants us to realize that everything good we have in this life is from
Him. Whatever promise in God’s Word you are waiting on God to keep in your life, keep waiting. Keep the faith! God honors His Word, and in His time He will visit you!
