Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 

 

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 

 

In our Christian walk it is so easy to forget that we don’t have to be the person we used to be. We don’t have to give in to our fleshly cravings and desires. The reason for this is that through faith in Christ we have become a new creation. Here in this letter to the church at Corinth Paul is reminding them of this beautiful truth. He even adds the the old things have passed away. The old you is gone, your old desires, you no longer have to give in to those fleshly cravings because something new has happened to you. You have been born again, you have been recreated to be the person that God desires you to be! That old man has been crucified with Christ, so that it is no longer you that live but Christ within in you (Galatians 2:20). In Ephesians the Bible says that once one puts their faith in Christ they are a new man, and the old man has died. 

 

Friends I am reminding you of this truth today because it’s so easy to forget that you have a new power living in you. This power is not something you earn, it is not from working out, it is not from trying to become moral, it is simply a gift of God that one receives upon faith in Christ. This is power is the Holy Spirit, and He is working in you to make you the person God desires! He is making you new, He has crucified the old man and all that remains is the new man. The man or woman that God desires you to be. The Holy Spirit empowers you to overcome temptation. As a result of this you don’t have to give in to the old desires of your flesh. The Holy Spirit will produce fruits in you, fruits that you never thought possible (Galatians 5:22-23). You are now a child of God. I hope and pray this reminder gives you the encouragement to live in the power of the Holy Spirit
