Key Verse: Romans 6:13 “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness leading to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” Romans 6 is a reminder to Christians that they are not to live in sin. At the beginning of the chapter Paul answers a rhetorical question about whether or not Christians should continue in sin because grace abounds. He says NO!! If we died with Christ we have died to the chains of sin. WE don’t have to live that way anymore. From the moment of salvation onward, sin is 100% a choice. It always was a choice, but now now we have the means to overcome it and overcome temptation. As a result of having the means to deal with temptation Paul exhorts us in V.13 that we present our bodies as instruments to righteousness. This Greek word translated here as instruments can also be translated as weapons. I prefer this translation. By translating the Greek word as weapons it helps us realize that we are either fighting for the kingdom or harming the kingdom with how we use our bodies. WE either have our weapon (our bodies) aimed at the devil and his forces or we have them aimed at God and all that is good. We are not neutral in this fight. WE are either glorifying God through our bodies and actions or we are dishonoring Him. Friend you are no longer a slave to sin if you have placed your faith in Christ. God has sent the Holy Spirit into your heart, and you have access to divine power. You can overcome the wicked one. You can use your body and mind for the glory of God. Ready your weapons to fight for God’s kingdom!
