Key Verse: Proverbs 12:25 “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” Statistics tell us that anxiety is at an all time high. Everyone is anxious about everything. We are anxious about making ends meet, about our health, our children, our grandchildren, and so many more things. We would all do well to remember truth of Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.” God promises that if we seek Him first He will provide our needs. Despite this Biblical truth I have so many friends that still allow anxiety to pull them into deep depression and harm their walk with God. How can we help our friends and fellow Christians who struggle with anxiety? Solomon in this proverb, Proverbs 12:25, tells us what we can do. A good word can make the heart glad. Those who are struggling with anxiety need encouragement. What type of encouragement? It depends on what exactly they are going through. Where should you get your good word of encouragement from? I believe you should get it from the pages of Scripture. God has given us so many wonderful promises in His Word. There are promises and commands about finances, health, eternal life, comfort in tragedy, God’s justice and vengeance, and so much more. The next time you see a fellow church member struggling with anxiety give them a word of encouragement by reminding them of the truths in God’s Word!
