Key Verse: Psalm 78:4 “We will not hide them from our children, telling the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.” I imagine that all of us could agree that our culture is in a major decline. The devil has infiltrated it through entertainment, economics, and education. How it it that we have let the devil get such a foothold on the culture? I believe that part of the reason is our parenting. To be truthful I find that most parents today under the age of 45 are extremely lazy and selfish. They want to live life the way they want, and pretty much just want their kids to stay out of the way until its convenient. This has led to parents giving young children cell phones, iPads, and many other things to just get them out of the way so they can live their life. We have gotten lazy as parents regarding the discipline and nourishment of our children and as a result our children are becoming infected with the ways of the world. If we don’t teach our children the right way to go, they will inevitably choose the wrong way due to the influence of the sinful culture and their own sinful nature. In Psalm 78, the psalmist says that he will tell his children all the old sayings and stories about God (V.1-4). If we wish for the next generation to be sincere followers of Christ that make a difference for the kingdom we as parents have to do our part at home. We have to constantly be sharing the stories of Scripture with them, and show them how every story applies to our lives. We have to testify to goodness of God by showing them how God has changed us and what God has done for us on a personal level. We have to show them what it looks like to worship God and spend meaningful time with Him on a regular basis. If we don’t do this the world will seduce them into following the devil’s wicked ways. Your children are in a war! It’s up to you to make sure they are fighting for the right team. You have to raise them right. We must stop being lazy, we must stop looking to the church, the school, and the daycare to raise our kids, and we have to raise them ourselves according to the Bible. We must sacrificially choose the spiritual welfare of our children over our own desires and even over their athletic careers and education. As Christian parents our first priority is to raise children who love God, follow Jesus, and who go and make more disciples!
