Key Verses: Psalm 3:3-4 “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill.” David wrote this Psalm during one of the most trying times in his life. His own son Absalom was attempting to overthrow David as king. Absalom was nearly successful and David was forced to flee the city. This most recent tragedy was not the only difficulty that David had been working through as one plainly sees in 2 Samuel 11-18. David has been having a rough go of it. He more than likely penned this Psalm during his escape from Jerusalem. Without a doubt David felt as if his life was falling apart! Everywhere he looked he saw enemies (V.1). This probably led David to feel hopeless, and overwhelmed. However, then David did something, and it was the best thing he could have ever done. He cried out to God, and He says that God answered Him (V.4). After David cried out to God, he was able to sleep in peace, after he cried out to God David said that he would not fear 10,000 soldiers surrounding him, because God is a God of salvation! More than likely your situation today is not exactly the same as David’s. You probably are not facing an army of thousands, and your son is probably not trying to kill you. However, we all face difficulties in life. There are financial trials, marital problems, bouts with loneliness, and spiritual battles that wage on for what seems like forever. These things will make you feel hopeless, they will make you feel as if you will never experience victory and peace in this life! But dear friend, I want to remind you to cry out to the Lord!! Just as He answered David, He will answer you! Salvation belongs to Him (V.8)! He has crushed your enemies (V.7), He will arise and save you (V.7)! He will give you the peace you need to have rest in the storm (V.5)! He will sustain you (V.5)! All you have to do is cry out to Him today! He has already defeated our greatest enemies! Sin, death, and the devil have already been defeated through the cross and the empty tomb. We are just experiencing their final breath. Whatever your struggle is today, whatever giant your facing, whatever battle your fighting, cry out to God, and HE WILL ANSWER!!
