Key Verses: Psalm 141:8 

“But my eyes are upon You, O God the Lord; in You I take refuge; do not leave my soul destitute. Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, and from the traps of the workers of iniquity. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape safely.” 

At this point in the Psalm David has laid out everything he needs from God. He asks that God hear his prayer (V.1-2), that God would help him control his tongue (V.3), that God would keep him from living like the rest of the world (V.4), that he would have accountability in his life and appreciate it (V.5), and that the wicked would face God’s righteous judgment (V.5-7). Now at the end of this awesome prayer, David acknowledges that none of this is possible without God. He writes that his eyes are upon God! Just a farmer who needs a rain turns his eyes towards the clouds in hopes that it may rain, David turns his eyes to the Lord waiting on Him to act. The requests that David has made in this prayer, are things that David cannot accomplish on his own. He needs God to act. However, we should realize that this is not a looking at God with doubt wondering if He will act. David is looking at God WAITING for him to act! David has prayed in faith and now has fixed eyes on God expecting Him to act! Oh how we desperately need this kind of faith when we go to the Lord in prayer! We have seen all through Scripture how God moves when His people pray, yet many of us are like the doubting man that James mentions in James 1 when it comes to our prayers. We pray, but we often don’t expect God to move! David did! This does not mean that David believed that God would act immediately. He says that it is in God that I take refuge. He prayed in faith, looked towards God with an expectant attitude, but He chose to take refuge in the strength and plan of God until God decided to act. 

We need to learn that God’s timing is not always our timing. Oftentimes God’s answer genuine prayer that aligns with His Word is not no, its not yet. It is these times of waiting that often cause us the most anxiety and fear. That is when we must decide in our hearts to run to God and hide in Him. We must choose to trust in the goodness of God and also trust in His plan even when His timing is not ours. Seek God in faith filled prayer today and wait expectantly upon Him and trust His plan even when He has not yet answered your prayers!
