“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing HIs head He have up His spirit.” 

It’s hard to believe that Good Friday is here again. 2026 is flying by. But what about Good Friday is good? After all, its the day when mankind too the Son of God and killed Him! It’s good because it is the culmination of everything that Jesus accomplished in this life. When Jesus hung on that cross and said it is finished, He was referring to a lot of different things. For one the perfect life that had to be lived for His sacrifice to be acceptable was finished. Secondly the pain was finished. Thirdly, and perhaps most important was that the sacrifice for sins was finished. From this moment on, there was no need to go to the temple yearly to offer sacrifices for sins, Jesus offered His own life as a better sacrifice. Since His life was offered as a sacrifice the only Jewish temple and their sacrificial system was no longer needed and no longer effective. If one still desired to offer those sacrifices it was like spitting in the face of God who gave us the best sacrifice! 

Good Friday is good, because of the awesome sacrifice of Christ. As a result of this sacrifice we now have access to God. That is why the veil in the temple tore! Before only the high priest on certain days was allowed to enter God’s presence. Now because of the sacrifice of Christ and forgiveness of sins, all who have faith in His awesome sacrifice have access to God! We are forgiven because of the cross, and we have access to God because of the cross, these are the reasons why Good Friday is good! Take a few moments today and thank God for what Christ accomplished on the cross so long ago!
