Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 

 

“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” 

 

The church at Thessalonica was a church that was afraid their loved ones who had faith Christ and had died would not be risen from the dead. Paul writes and reminds them of the resurrection of the dead and that they too will see God and reign with Him forever. After ensuring them of this truth in chapter 5, Paul writes, “comfort and edify” one another. Some people often wonder why going to church is so important. Two reasons why are found right here in 1 Thessalonians 5:11. Two things that are supposed to happen on. Regular basis when you go to church and when you are surrounded by other Christians. 

 

First of all you should find comfort. This is one of the primary functions of the church. We are to comfort one another. We are to be there for each other as difficulty arises. We are to be there to pray for one another, to love one another, and bear each others burdens. 

 

Second of all you should be edified when you go to church. This means that what happens at your church should make you more Christlike. The Bible studies, the Sunday school classes, the prayer time, the missions, the events, all of it should be done in a way that grows you in your faith. A church where this does not happen on a regular basis is a church that is not functioning the way that God desires. 

 

The Christian who is not regularly attending church will find themselves very discouraged and drifting away from Christ in their personal walk. We need each other. Make sure that you are regularly attending church somewhere so you can be comforted and edified!
