Key Verse: Revelation 2:4 “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love” In yesterday’s sermon we were reminded that we have never drifted too far to make our way back to God. As long as we have a repentant heart, and follow Him in obedience God will always be with us. But what caused us to drift from him in the first place. It could certainly be doubt and fear. That what it was for Abram. However, I believe another likely reason for our drifting away from God is because we have left Him as our first love. What does this mean? It means that we no longer love God like we did at the start. This often stems from us putting something or someone other then God on the throne of our heart. Anytime we do this we will always fall into sin of some kind. This is what Jesus is speaking against concerning the church at Ephesus. They where a church that was doing a lot of good things, but they were a church that had lost its fire. Their passion was no longer burning hot for God. They had something else that they were more passionate about, and God is calling them out on it. Friends, I wonder if there is something in our life that has become an idol. Something or someone that has caused us to lose our passion for the gospel. If so, we need to remove that thing or person from the throne of our heart and put God back on the throne. If you don’t know if you put something or someone else on the throne of your heart, ask God to reveal it to you. I can assure you He most certainly will.
