Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:10 

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 

The love of money changes people. I have seen people who at one point had little to know money and while they were in this state they were humble, loving and Christlike. However, the moment their business took off, their investments started making money their entire personality changed. They began viewing themselves as better than others, and became very arrogant about what they had achieved financially. What caused these people to change? Some would say it was the money, I would say it was the love of money. When people begin to love and worship the dollar, it changes everything about them. That is why Paul is warning Timothy to find contentment in his walk with God and where God has him. Because when someone falls in love with money and the pursuit of it they will sacrifice their beliefs and morals to get more of it. That is why the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. It causes people to stray from their faith, but it also does something else. 

Paul says that those who love money have also pierced themselves through with many sorrows in their greedy behavior. People that love money are often some of the most miserable people on the planet. Their greed has caused them to make foolish decisions, and has caused them to have many regrets. Their love of money has caused them much pain. What is the opposite of greed? It’s contentment. We must learn to be content with what God has given us, and instead of chasing the dollar we must chase after Christ. Don’t let greed ruin your life!!
